Reasons to Get Involved

Patients often have strong personal motivations for getting involved in research, as may their family and carers. They may have had good experiences and want to use these to make research the best it can be, or want to ensure that bad experiences are not suffered by others. And they all contribute to making research, and healthcare, better for this and for future generations.

This five-minute film provides a brief overview of what patient and public involvement (PPI) in research is, why people get involved and what being involved is like. It’s based on interviews with 38 patients and members of the public who tell the story in their words.
