Information for Patients, Carers and the Public

Involvement Across the Research Cycle

We want to encourage patients, carers and the public to get involved with research, from planning what to do to how it is done, what happens to the results and all the steps in between. This helps ensure that medical research focuses on what matters to patients and is carried out in ways that are acceptable to them. You can get involved in two ways: by searching the current opportunities section of this site and contacting researchers with whom you would like to work and/or by filling in the register interest online form to tell us how you would like to get involved. We will give your details to researchers who ask us for help to find people, and you will also receive an email every time a new involvement opportunity is posted on the site. If it’s not right for you, please do circulate it to anyone who might be interested.

Participation in Clinical Trials and Other Research Studies

There are hundreds of clinical trials and other studies taking place in the Thames Valley. Some are part of large national or international research projects while others are much smaller and more local. Information about local studies is included on this site, and you can register your interest to participate in them.

To find out about clinical trials which you may be able to join, please go to the UK Clinical Trials Gateway. While this site is designed to be accessible to patients, we are aware that some of the content is too complex – and we are working with those running and recruiting to trials in our area to change this. If you cannot find what you are looking for on the site, or do not understand it, please contact us. This is important as it will help us to help you find out what you need to know about trials, but we will also use information from you to make the necessary improvements to our section of the Gateway and hope that others running trials elsewhere in the UK may do the same.
